Das World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) hat zwei neue Standards verabschiedet. Zum einen die XHTML Basic 1.1 Empfehlung, die die Minimalanforderungen an ein XHTML-Dokument beschreibt. Es umfasst:
- XHTML Forms
- Intrinsic Events
- das value-Attribut für das li-Element
- das target-Attribut
- das style-Element
- das style-Attribut
- das XHTML-Presentation-Modul
- das inputmode-Attribut
Der zweite veröffentlichte Standard Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 stellt eine Empfehlung dar, wie Web-Inhalte für mobile Endgeräte adäquat umzusetzen sind. Dazu gibt es eine rund 60 Punkte umfassende Liste von Best Practices, die auf der Grundaussage der Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group des W3C basiert. Diese lässt ist in den 10 ways to mobilize zusammengefasst:
- Design for one web
- Rely on web standards
- Stay away from known hazards
- Be cautious of device limitations
- Optimize navigation
- Check graphics and colors
- Keep it small
- Use the network sparingly
